Pool Leak Detection

Pool leak detection is a process of discovering the location of a leak in a pool structure/liner or pluming system. Pool leaks left unaddressed can erode soil causing settlement and damage to the pool and surrounding decking, be costly by wasting large amounts of water, and can even be dangerous in some cases by causing a failure of the pool structure. For these reasons it is important that leaks are located and repaired as soon as the symptoms of a leak appear.

Most often there are obvious signs a pool is leaking such as large and sudden drops of the pool’s water level and/or saturated soil or puddling near the pool or pool plumbing system. However, sometimes it may be difficult to determine weather a pool is actually leaking or if the pool is experiencing high levels of evaporation. Water loss testing can help determine whether the pool (and/or spa) is losing water due to a leak, or common evaporation. A leak can occur in several areas including the shell or liner, exposed & buried plumbing and at the equipment. Leaks in these areas can sometimes be very difficult to discover as they can be as small as a pinhole and located literally anywhere in system. Long periods of rain can often hide a leak, and the evaporation caused by high heat, humidity and wind can make the pool appear to be leaking when it is not. The equipment used for this test is highly detailed and can detect even the smallest loss (10,000th of an inch) in a pool system. The information is presented in real time and can be included on the report.

Leak detection and water loss testing can be added to a pool inspection as an additional option or performed as a stand alone service. Please fell free to contact us for more information or to schedule testing.
